Bird Seed Star

As a gift for the winter holidays, I made these bird seed stars for the children on my bus.

Sewing

In the summer of 2017, I received an old Singer sewing machine that had been fixed up. Thanks Peterson.

Cat

I started learning how to sew, and one of my first projects was the pattern for this cat (Purl Soho). My first cat was sewn using miscellaneous fabrics that I picked up at a local, art recycling organization. Since, I  have made the cats with wool fabric and stuff them with wool batting and some lavender flowers. At this point, I have sewn 18 of them and given them away to mostly children, and my mom got one of course.

Rabbits

This is another hand-sewn pattern (Purl Soho) made from wool for the body and cotton for the ear lining.

Quilt

This is my first quilt. It is 52” x 60”. What can I say? There is heaps of work that goes into it. At first it seems like a long journey. Then once you get going, you just kind of settle into the process, enjoy each step along the way and forget about the time.

Dog

I have sewed a couple of these dogs. This one took a little more time to stuff him, so that he came out even and could stand up well. Another great pattern from Purl Soho.

Owls

One year I made these hand-sewn owls for all of the kindergarteners on my school bus route. After I had made about eight or nine, I realized I was going to need to make nineteen that year. They are made of sturdy, felted wool and stuffed with wool too. What a hoot!

Felting

Felted Acorn Necklaces

I found these really nice acorns that had beautiful caps on them with little stems on top. Then I felted different colors of wool in to little balls by rolling the wool between my hands with hot water and soap. I drilled two holes in the acorn cap and strung waxed string through them. Then I glued the felted acorn into the cap. Again, these became a gift to the kindergarteners on my bus.

Baskets

Bark & Tule Baskets

The bark basket is one piece folded in half and stitched together with rawhide. It has a leather strap so you can carry it over your shoulder.
The basket on the right is made from tules. It is filled with dried corn husks that are great for making cordage. You can see some that I made in the top of the basket.
